In order to implement the opinion of deepening education and teaching reform in the new era and help students better understand the national conditions and school conditions, to enhance their sense of identification with the university, under the guidance and support of the University's Department of Academic Affairs, Department of Student Affairs of the Party Committee, Department of Propaganda of the Party Committee, and Department of Development and Planning, the elective course of ideological and political theory with great characteristics of NPU - "Da Guo San Hang", which is jointly created by the School of Marxism, School of Astronautics, School of Marine Science and Technology, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Power and Energy, School of Physical Science and Technology, School of Software, was opened in the evening of 11th March 2024 at the Chang'an Campus.

The first class invited alumnus Shi Xiaofeng, Chief Engineer of China Shipbuilding Group (CSG) 705 Institute, to talk about the theme of "Don't Forget the Beginner's Mind, Keep the Mission in Mind, and Dedicate Your Youth and Strength to Comprehensively Building a World-Class Navy". He told the students about the national sentiment of "unity and struggle, excellence, pioneering and enterprising, dedication to national defence" through the history of the 705 Institute, the world's underwater attack and defence weapons and equipment development of the new dynamics and the scientific research achievements of the researchers in the field of underwater attack and defence, bringing a unique and infectious lively course. After the lecture, the students were impressed by the contents of the lecture. At the end of the lecture, students actively asked questions based on the content of the lecture, creating a classroom atmosphere of exploring new knowledge in two-way interaction.

Through the course, students gained a deeper understanding of the cultural connotation of NPU and further highlighted the "NPU phenomenon" of "chief engineer-type" talent training. He Miao, the course leader and vice president of the School of Marxism, said that the course "Da Guo San Hang" was very popular among the students, thanks to the fact that the course was closely centred on the grand vision of the cultivation of master general talents, and through the personal experiences of experts and alumni, the students were able to deeply experience the hardships and realities of scientific research. This course not only enriches the students' knowledge system, but also lays a solid foundation for their future career in scientific research.
